FastTrack

FastTrack for Dynamics 365 is Microsoft's free advisory and engineering program for qualifying customer implementations. FastTrack engineers — Microsoft staff, not consultants — sit alongside the customer and their implementation partner, providing architecture design reviews, Solution Blueprint Reviews (SBRs), Go-Live Readiness Reviews, and escalation to product engineering for blockers. FastTrack does not deliver implementations or write code; it advises, reviews, and documents findings against the Success by Design rubric.

In practice, FastTrack engagement starts when a Microsoft account team refers a customer whose licence commitment crosses the program's threshold — there is no self-service sign-up, and the exact volume bar is set per region and revisited by Microsoft periodically, so a partner or customer near the line should ask their Microsoft account team directly rather than assume either way. Once engaged, a FastTrack engineer typically joins at three points in a project: early, to review the proposed architecture against known platform limits and anti-patterns; mid-project, for a formal Solution Blueprint Review that checks the design against Success by Design's principles before build starts in earnest; and pre-go-live, for a Go-Live Readiness Review that checks operational readiness (data volumes tested, integrations load-tested, support model defined) rather than functional completeness.

Where teams get confused: FastTrack is not a substitute for an implementation partner, and it is not a support channel for day-to-day issues once live — Microsoft support and the partner's own support contract cover that. FastTrack's value is specifically in catching architecture and design mistakes before they're expensive to fix, using Microsoft's own visibility into what has gone wrong on other customers' projects. A project with no FastTrack involvement is not automatically at risk; it simply doesn't have that specific safety net, which matters more the larger and more customised the implementation is.
